Your first Flex tennis match in Taipei: from joining to reporting the score

By Flex Tennis Taiwan ·

Joining a league on your own can feel like a big step. For Flex singles, you do not need to bring a partner: you join a division, contact your opponents and arrange matches at times and courts that work for both of you. Here is what to expect before, during and after your first match.

This walkthrough covers the individual singles league. Team competitions have their own scheduling and reporting rules.

1. Check your level and the season, then register

Start with the Taipei league page. Check the season dates, registration deadline and fee, and make sure you have time to contact opponents and finish matches within the published deadlines. The league fee and court costs are separate.

You can join with little competition experience if you can already serve, rally and keep score independently. Read the readiness check and playing-level examples if you are unsure where to start.

Create an account and complete your playing level and preferred areas. When registration is open, follow the season's registration and payment steps. If registration is closed, use the league page's next-season notification list; it sends an email when registration opens and does not reserve a place.

2. Receive your division and invite an opponent

Divisions are based on playing level and preferred areas. Players without a Flex Rating start from their self-rated level. Follow the season's division announcement and kickoff email for your group, opponent contact information and standings link.

You arrange the actual match directly with your opponent. Suggest two times and an area you can reach, rather than waiting for someone else to organize your first game. If English is easiest for you, say so early; other players' language preferences vary.

Hi! We're in the same Flex division. Would you like to play our first league match next week? I can do Tuesday evening or Saturday morning around Songshan. English is easiest for me. Which time and court would work for you?

Keep contact details and booking information in your private conversation. If you cannot find your division information, contact Flex.

3. Confirm the court, costs and match format

Before travelling, agree on:

  • Where and when: the exact venue, court number, start time and booked duration. Decide who will make the booking and confirm it is complete.
  • Costs: share the court fees, including any guest fees. Check the venue's cancellation and rain policy when booking.
  • Format: either two sets with a 10-point deciding match tiebreak at one set each, or a 10-game pro set with a 7-point tiebreak at 9–9. Agree before play and read the rules for a match cut short by court time or weather.
  • Equipment: bring your racket and suitable court shoes. Each player must bring a new can of tennis balls. Under the league rules, the winner takes the unopened can and the other player can take the used balls.
  • Weather: agree when you will check the court conditions and how you will reach each other if plans change.

Use the English Taipei court-booking guide to compare booking options. Flex opponents choose their court together; joining the league does not itself reserve one.

If it rains or you need to cancel

Contact your opponent directly and make sure they know; do not assume a message has been read. The league's cancellation rules require phone calls and emails. Rain or a wet playing surface is exempt from the late-cancellation penalty, but the venue's booking and refund rules still apply separately.

If play has already started, follow the league's rules for interrupted matches rather than assuming the result disappears. Read the full league rules before your first match, including cancellation windows, no-shows and unfinished matches. Contact Flex if the result is unclear or disputed.

4. Play and agree on the result

Allow time to meet and warm up within your court booking. Confirm the format again before starting and keep track of the score together.

Flex uses no-ad scoring: at 40–40, play one deciding point. The receiver chooses which side to receive on, and whoever wins that point wins the game. Make line calls promptly on your side of the court; if you are unsure a ball was out, treat it as in. The full rules explain how to handle disagreements.

At the end, agree on the final score and winner before leaving. Note the date, court and any reason the match ended early so the report reflects what happened.

5. Have the winner report the score once

The winning player reports the result on the Flex website. Sign in, open your division and choose Report Score. Select the opponent, enter the match date and location, choose the format and winner, and fill in the scores. Check the confirmation carefully before submitting.

Only one report is needed for a match. Check the division's existing results before entering it again, especially if your opponent may already have reported it. If the website asks whether the match has already been reported, inspect the existing result. Confirm a separate match only when it really was another match, not an attempt to correct or retry the same result.

After submission, check that the result appears in your division. For an incorrect or duplicate entry, email Flex with the league, division, players, match date and correction needed. Do not submit a second result to fix the first.

Then arrange your next match

You can contact other opponents in your division and keep playing within the season deadlines. At most two matches against the same opponent count in a season. Standings and playoff qualification follow the season's rules; completing a first match does not guarantee playoff entry.
