How to find tennis partners and make tennis friends in Taipei

By Flex Tennis Taiwan ·

Moved to Taipei with a racket but no one to play with? Start with three things: your playing level, the areas you can reach, and when you are free. A useful partner request makes it easy for someone to suggest a first hit.

For a casual rally, try a player directory or local tennis community. If you would like to meet people through regular matches, Flex's Taipei tennis league groups players by level and lets opponents arrange their own match times. It is a paid league with scored matches; bring a willingness to compete as well as meet people.

Choose the kind of tennis you want

  • A relaxed hit: say that you want rallies or practice, rather than a scored match. Mention whether you can sustain a rally and serve consistently.
  • Regular matches and new tennis friends: a league gives you a reason to contact different opponents and keep playing across a season. Check the dates and format before joining.
  • Your first lessons: look for coaching if you are still learning to rally, serve or keep score. A match league does not replace lessons.
  • A short visit: arrange a specific hit before committing to a season. Ask about racket rental if you are travelling without your own equipment.

Where to look for a tennis partner

Player directories and local communities

Global Tennis Network's Taipei player directory lists players looking for partners. Check each profile's activity and availability; a listing does not guarantee a reply or an available court.

You can also look for current partner requests in Taipei's Reddit community and local tennis groups. Read each community's rules before posting. Keep phone numbers and exact meeting details in private messages rather than a public post.

Meet players through Flex

Flex is for amateur players who want matches that fit around everyday life. Players are grouped by ability and area, then contact opponents to arrange when and where to play. You arrange the court together and share the court cost; the league fee is separate.

You do not need to bring a singles partner to join. You do need to be ready to play and score matches. If you are unsure about your level, start with the English Flex Rating guide.

See the Taipei league, current season and registration options. When registration is closed, that page offers an email notification for a future opening. Joining the notification list does not reserve a place or create a match booking.

Write a request people can answer

Share your approximate level, preferred area, availability and whether you want practice or a match. If you need to arrange things in English, say so early.

Hi! I'm new to Taipei and looking for a regular tennis partner. I'm around NTRP 3.0, can rally and serve, and would love a friendly hit or practice set. I can play weekday evenings near Daan or Songshan. English is easiest for me. Anyone interested in finding a court together next week?

Adapt the example to your actual level and schedule. A useful follow-up is two specific time options and a court you can both reach. Meeting someone you enjoy playing with is a good reason to arrange another hit, even after a league match is finished.

Agree on the court before you travel

Confirm the location, booking, time, balls and how you will split the court fee. Do not assume that an empty court is available without checking its booking rules. For an outdoor court, agree on when you will make a rain decision.

Our English Taipei court-booking guide explains the main booking options and links to venue information. Check the venue's current rules before making a booking.

New to Taipei? A few things to know

Can I arrange everything in English?

Flex has an English league page and English guides. Other players' language preferences vary, so confirm how you will communicate before arranging a match. If you need help understanding the league or a registration step, email the Flex team before paying.

Can I join with a phone number from another country?

Choose your country or region next to the phone field when signing up. Taiwan (+886) is the default, and you can switch to your own calling code or paste a full international number. Use a number where other players can reach you. This does not change any separate contact requirements a court-booking service may have.

Can I pay with a foreign-issued credit card?

Checkout uses ECPay and charges in New Taiwan dollars (TWD). Acceptance of a foreign-issued card depends on the payment service's merchant settings and your bank; we cannot guarantee every overseas card will work. If you need to use one, contact Flex before registering. Never send card numbers or security codes by email.

What if I am only here for a few weeks?

Check the season dates before paying. A specific casual hit may suit a short stay better than a season of matches. Ask Flex if you are unsure whether the current season fits your time in Taipei.

Start building your tennis circle

Pick an area, choose a realistic time to play, and send one clear invitation. If regular matches sound like your kind of tennis, explore the Taipei league and see whether the current season fits.
